Summary0000050: "a dusting of mud" implies dry mud
DescriptionDwarf mode. When loo[k]ing at tiles recently muddied, I see "a dusting of mud". dust implies dry, but mud implies wet/damp.
Steps To ReproduceDig out a room. Channel a hole in the ceiling, and mark the hole as a pond to be filled. Wait for some water to be poured in the hole, then loo[k] at the muddied tiles.
Additional InformationOne of these tiles is underwater (1/7); most are now dry due to evaporation.

A "dusting" of something wet is theoretically possible if going by the definition of "an extremely thin coating". Is there a good alternative word to dusting? "Veneer" would be accurate, but also rather esoteric.

Synonyms from thesaurus.com entry "coating", retrieved Mon Apr 05, 2010:
"blanket, bloom, coat, crust, dusting, encrustation, film, finish, glaze, lamination, layer, membrane, patina, sheet, skin, varnish, veneer"
