Summary0005556: Massive amount of dwarf suddenly stuck to Idle
DescriptionOut of nowhere, a huge amount of dwarves started to become idle, not drinking, not doing task and not hauling anything. They stand around doing nothing and they get stuck at tasks for a long time. They, for example, take way to much time in the fields and sleep in it or in the refuse pile. Also, they don't use bed anymore.

No idea what did this...

Did you recently try setting up burrows or lock a door/raise a bridge, or change how your fortress was laid out (i.e. dig out some new stairs)?

No, a military was set up just before it started bugging. i'm trying right now to remove all zone and squads. Also, one of my dwarf is constantly searching for empty bucket to give water something or somebody... But I do have 5 of them in my stockpile.

Oh and I forgot, crops wither in the field, but dwarf pick them up when they are withered... And health screen does not show any dwarf being thirsty, but I have 12 of them that are right now. Also a mistake of mine, my version is .03 and not .04

Are you sure the buckets in your stockpile are empty? They might contain lye or stagnant water.

Do you have room in your food stockpile for crops? What are your standing orders set to?

Do you have burrows set up? If you set up a military, had a burrow, and then accidentally activated the burrow while trying to activate your military, then you could expect this behaviour.

Thing is it's a non globalized state. It's not happening for all dwarves, maybe 75% of them. Buckets are empty, food stockpile is unaltered and with huge amount of space. I have no burrow and no alert were changed. All standing order are the same aside from the refuse order I changed when I started the game, but 2 years has gone by without problem related to refuse or order. Whats bugging me the most is that the health screen does not display anything, but a lot of them are thirsty or sleepy. Imma update to .04 to see if it solve the problem.

New thing, I saw that they harvest indoor seeds but not the outdoor seeds. I have no doors that block the inside from the outside.

Found it,

The second floor of my main staircase was made of "down stairs" instead of "up\down stairs". what REALLY strange is that it happened all of a sudden. I NEVER did that, even by accident, this fort has been running for several years and the down stairs were made of a rock I never used to make construction in my fort... really weird...

At least it's fixed...

Glad to hear you found your problem. It sounds like it might've just been an accidental designation in this case.

There were issues in past versions of areas of forts spontaneously reverting to prior states. I don't think this is what happened here, but if it happens continuously, re-open this report.
