Summary0006050: 1/7 water never dries
DescriptionMy map has some puddles where I pierced the aquifer that don't seem to go away. I have been playing for several years now, and got rid of some of the water by building roads on it. In winter, the wet ramps on the edges of the pit used to freeze into ice walls. I invariably dug them out before they could thaw to avoid flooding my mine, and removing the ramps seems to have fixed that issue. This does not affect ALL water; some areas have dried on their own.
Steps To ReproduceI dug down by carving out a rectangular section of earth and dropping it on the aquifer, and there were three aquifer layers. The whole aquifer might be a red herring, though; some of the water from the surface pool that I dug out has also been sloshing around for quite some time now. World generated in .34.11, unmodded.

In previous versions of Dwarf Fortress, I observed that weather seemed to have an effect on the rate at which water would evaporate - by any chance is it raining?

Weather and climate both have an effect on evaporation rates. If you're in a temperate or cold swamp, you're going to have a lot more standing water than in a hot desert.

I can confirm that 1/7 water does indeed dry up in 34.11, though. So it's likely not a version-wide bug, though I suppose it could be a bug that it stands forever under certain conditions where it logically should evaporate after a while.

Whether water dries or not doesn't seem to be affected by biome boundaries on my map, so I doubt it's weather.
