I'm sure that I've done so multiple times in all versions of 40.xx Can you upload a save? Edit: Just now confirmed that it does indeed work. Sounds like you fucked up stair designations somewhere. |

I had something similar happen to me in .40.03: an up/down stair constructed above a dug downstair, and a tile designated for digging an up/down stair above the constructed one. For some period of time it looked like that it wasn't going to work - the job didn't get assigned, even though there were free miners. Then suddenly one of them started working on it as if nothing was wrong. Something with job priorities? |

I've had similar happen frequently, with all sorts of cross-level designations. IIRC this happened in 0.34.11 as well. Removing the designation, letting the game run a couple of ticks, and then redesignating the exact same thing usually gets my miners to notice it. |

I just experienced something that seems to be the same as this, although in different ways, trying to dig straight down leaves them at "no job" also had 2 tiles in a room i dug out that didn't get mined. Loading the save, they suddenly were able to do it, but then they seemed to resume not taking the job when trying to dig stairs further downwards. Oddly, 2 stairways 2 tiles apart, one is able to dig 1 level further down than the other, clearing out the area around the stairs on the level above seems to let them dig another level down at each stair. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9317 |
