Summary | 0010013: Entrance to underworld not in spire
Description | So I've killed about 600 beak dogs and gotten to the lowest level of the spire (after a LOT of those bottom circle rooms), and it was just a room with some trolls. I've read some spoilers and it should have the purple staircase, but I can't find it. This is the second time this has happened to me (the first in a past version) and I am just very confused. Dunno how to share my save, but the person in this link has had a similar experience. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=141143.15 It doesn't influence gameplay on a large scale, but it is very disappointing.
Steps To Reproduce | Kill everything in an underworld spire to minimize lag. Spend a good hour-ish walking to the bottom z level. Kill a few lonely trolls in a dead-end room. Cry.
Tags | Dark Fortress, underground

It may be that something went wrong when the spire was generated, and the entrance to the underworld has been shifted down one or more z-levels. Both issues 0006926 and 0009871 demonstrate a similar problem. |
This seems to happen rather often then? Or is my luck just REALLY bad? |
I've never actually gotten to the underworld yet. It sounds so fun. |
There are two layouts that a spire can generate with which I've seen, one that links to hell, and one which doesn't. The problem is you can't control which you get, and the only way to switch them is stuff like waiting. This has happened to me before in hell when I wrote a poem to clear out some demons (before the "you don't feel safe enough" change) and the entrance disappeared. You CAN deconstruct them from down there if that happens, but you gotta be in hell or standing on a dry magma flow to do it otherwise. |
So waiting can potentially open it back up again??? Have you ever had that happen? I'll experiment! If this works thank you so much! If it doesnt its interesting at least. |
To share your save, upload your zipped region folder to http://dffd.bay12games.com/ [^] and post a link here. |
I think you only get one shot at having it reload to the connected map version, or one shot at having it reload to the broken map version. |

Thanks Detros, here is my uploaded save. Had to compress with WinRAR, I hope that's not a problem. (And heres hoping I didn't mess anything else up either, please tell me if so) http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12465 I'm trying to get out of the tower now to test out waiting. I'm thinking multiple saves before and after waiting to see if one has an effect. But the lag is back so this may take a while. |
Good news everyone! I retired my adventurer at the tower and came back, and the tower totally changed its wall configuration! I'm still killing my way through hundreds of beakdogs, again, because of that bug where non-historical figures can't die permanently, so getting to the bottom layer through all this lag will still take a few more days. Hopefully it works though! *Will upload save when I get there* Also, the game crashes when the Combat UI overflows the page. Just thought I should mention that, as its been my headache getting through this crowd. |
Got 2 saves for you! The first! End of the spire! Un-retiring worked! http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12496 I had confused the vault for the spire. Spire wasn't worth doing when I could have tunneled down myself. Oh well... Second save! So I played around in hell, and even blinded a few demons to bring back to the fort! (They think they are entertainers, but shall really be packhorses and construction workers hoho) ((Please don't fix this. I hate that you couldn't befriend evil creatures in the other versions, and this is SO awesome)) Ahem... And the spire reverted to a solid slab without entrance. Also the beakdogs must be back because even down here the lag is crazy. Sigh. Twiddling to see if I can re-fix with distance. http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12498 |
