Summary0010295: Dwarves eat raw ingredients when prepared meals are available.
DescriptionWhen you prepare meals, dwarves still often eat raw ingredients like plump helmets instead, even while complaining about a lack of decent meals.

There is no way in the game to force them to eat the meals.

This is bad for two reasons:

1. The dwarves become unhappy for a bad reason (complain about bad food while good food was available).
2. It is often a waste of the ingredients (you might want to reserve them for brewing, but it is impossible to stop dwarves from eating them instead).
Steps To Reproduce1. Harvest plump helmets.
2. Cook some meals, dump in same or different stockpile (doesn't matter).
3. Watch them often eat the plump helmets and ignore the meals.

It used to be that high quality meals were required for dorfs to satisfy their craving for decent meals. That, however, was changed with the introduction of needs, where the definition of "quality" changed from "quality of cooking" to "containing something on my list of favorite things to ingest". A masterful roast of non favorite things currently means nothing to dorfs (apart from possibly negating the "eating the same old thing" complaint).
There IS an issue with dorfs being very poor at selecting cooked meals containing their favorite ingredients (in the rare cases where such meals exist) and instead pick whatever is closest to them. However, they seem to be reasonably competent at finding favorite raw ingredients and booze, and can be seen going out of their way to get those (again, in the rare cases where it's possible to provide what they want).
