Summary | 0010397: Embark area had a dragon resident
Description | On embarking on my first 0.44.02 map, I found that there was already a Dragon residing in the area. While this was certainly !!fun!!, it would have been nice to get a pre-embark warning of megabeasts in one's starting area (after all, if we're warned about large areas and aquifers, huge scaly fire-breathing magical lizards should qualify too).
Steps To Reproduce | Get "lucky" in choosing an embarkation area.
Additional Information | It would have been less awkward if the dragon had been in a lair of some kind. Instead it was sitting on a hill just opposite my wagon, with what was presumably the dragon's hoard scattered over the landscape. Others have reported that megabeasts aren't seeking out dwarves; my experience seems to bear that out (so the combination of bugs of no warning of megabeasts and megabeasts not pathing correctly cancelled each other out enough for me to actually get a fort running despite this).

I don't know if this is a bug per-se, more like a suggested improvement to inform the player that a megabeast is present. Would you mind sharing the save? It sounds awesome. |

This isn't a bug, world generated lairs can be embarked upon and they are kept as secret features on purpose. This is seemingly just game feedback that should have been shared on the forums or elsewhere instead than a actual bug Mantis is used for. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php (Same goes for caves, which can be inhabited by kobolds & megabeasts, have config files to let you see them in embark mode) |
