Summary | 0011518: Dwarves can have so many deities they don't have time to worship them all
Description | An immigrant with many deities worships their deities in order. This works fine until they begin to be unfocused by how long it's been since they've worshiped the first deity, at which point they start from the beginning again rather than finishing off their deity list. Over the long term this means they never get to the later deities on their list and begin to be badly distracted by them.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Gen a world with 4-5 dwarf civs for 200+ years 2. Find a histfig with grandparents from 3 different civs, and their current civ 3. Embark with that civ & hope to get someone like this as an immigrant 4. Let them spend all their time worshipping and watch what happens

I strongly disagree that this is a minor bug. My entire fort ground to a halt because of this. Every single immigrant had at least five deities, and many of them had over a dozen. Every dwarf except for the starting ones was always severely distracted and unhappy, and nothing ever got done. |
|
Could you post a save (from a world generated in 47.04, after the huge civ deity lists were fixed) where every dwarf has more than 5 gods and many have over a dozen? That would be a great example of this bug as it's so rare and would help root out all of the causes of dwarves ending up with huge lists of gods. |
|
No, I was experiencing it in 47.03. I did check the changelog for 47.04 before posting though, and didn't see any fixes related to this. I also assumed that having lots of instances of a problem had the same cause as having a couple instances of the problem. I'm sorry if I was mistaken. It sounds like a save wouldn't actually be much help. |

"47.04: Stopped pantheons of mortal races from frequently having very high numbers of deities." Now, that's not to say you don't still get this issue, some dwarves pick up religions from other civs and end up with a ton of gods. But your description of "every dwarf" with tons of gods isn't relevant to the current version. Op describes it just fine. An occasional dwarf with too many gods for his own wellbeing. |
|
Yes, I saw that, but the pantheon in my game didn't *have* a very high number of deities. There were only 17, which seemed reasonable to me. The problem was the fact that dwarves were trying to worship most or all of the list. Still, if it's very rare now, I'm sorry I argued with it being rated as "minor". |

Temple conversion via a priest does help round off loose commitment to many gods into more focused worship, but its not a very efficient way of dealing with the issue because of the protracted steps to go through without lowering requirements in the init files in order to found a organized religion unless one already exists to tap into and assign a dwarf to. It would probably be open to suggestions for any such way for dwarves to handle it themselves, in the proper place on the forums. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?board=5.0 |

This has once again re-appeared in 47.05 in a variated form, my previous note is not withstanding in the current version on dwarves with 2 full time "ardent" temple relationships (5/5 in religious milestone scale each) and a "casual worship" (2/5). Sermons were non-effective and it appears to have spilled over a maximum capacity for religion as it cannot be re-optimized. This is obviously frustrating, given the demanding nature of imbalanced worship in which they are constantly activity locked between the two zones of their most prominent gods. |
