| Summary | 0011836: Missions stuck travelling if war animal assigned to pasture, until animal unpastured | ||||
| Description | I had 4 full military squads stuck travelling to a mission for two seasons, but then discovered that it was due to the fact that two of the war animals assigned to one of the dwarves in the squad was still assigned to a pasture. After unpasturing the animals, they promptly left the map, and the mission progressed and the squads arrived back as normal, no issues. I assigned the war animals in question After the mission was already assigned and the squads were getting their provisions rather than before, which may have been a factor. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | I haven't tried to reproduce the problem, but I found that the issue on my end was the pastured animals from finding this Reddit thread with a similar issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/dwarffortress/comments/7gft7v/day_658_my_squad_of_10_raiders_are_still/ | ||||
| Additional Information | I am using the latest version of the Lazy Newb Pack, and thus DFHack. | ||||

Additional information provider by submitter: I encountered this bug in the Steam version: in addition to the above, pastured war elephants assigned to a raid party will stop eating, leading to starvation. The elephants did not necessarily join the raid when removed from pasture, but exited the area to join the raid immediately if pastured adjacent to the area border on the surface. |

This has been an issue for a long time. If I understand it correctly, the squads are off map waiting on all members to leave the fort map. That includes assigned war animals. Removing the war animals from the pasture should "release" them to the edge of the map and the mission should continue as normal. To reproduce: Create a military squad War train a dog Assign dog as a work animal to anyone in squad Assign dog to a pasture, or lock it in a room. Send squad out on a mission Mission will not complete, squad will not advance mission until the dog is released/unpastured and leaves the map |
