| Description | When closing the settings screen in any v50 version, the game crashes to desktop. This happens every single time I close the settings screen, without fail. Settings changes are still saved so this is not really a big deal; it just means I have to be mindful about when I decide to change settings. | ||||

| Additional Information | I am running the game through Wine on macOS 14.0 Sonoma (on an ARM cpu). Both the classic and steam version exhibit this crash in all versions of Wine I have tested (including PlayOnMac, Wine CrossOver, and Apple's own Game Porting Toolkit). I have the backtrace file from the crash, but I cannot figure out how to upload it to this bug tracker. The first line of the file is "Unhandled exception: unimplemented function msvcp140_atomic_wait.dll.__std_atomic_notify_one_direct called in 64-bit code (0x0000007b01376e)." | ||||

It sounds like Dwarf Fortress isn't compatible with the versions of Wine you happen to be using, and I don't know that there's anything Toady (or Putnam) can do about that - either you'll need to play the game on a Windows machine (or a Windows VM on x86 hardware) or wait until Dwarf Fortress has been properly ported to macOS with ARM support. |

it is worth reiterating, again, that this crash only occurs when closing settings. in every other context the game runs flawlessly via wine |

Can be resolved by updating winetricks and reinstalling vcrun2022: winetricks --self-update winetricks vcrun2022 |
