Summary | 0001266: Pumping magma drops FPS by an order of magnitude
Description | I am using this save: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2129 When the 18-level magma pump stack is turned on (see the file description to find the lever that does it) my FPS drops from 0000036:0000100 to 0000019:0000010 FPS.
Steps To Reproduce | (see file description)
Additional Information | It might be something to do with the leakage from the pump stack on level 142 and below.

Liquids moving are notorius resource hogs. Can you post your computer specs? Most important is individual cpu clock speed and ram. |

1.86 GHz Intel Core Duo T2390 2.5 GB RAM Each pump except the top one should be pumping into an enclosed 1x1 area. (except the ones that leak, but those won't transmit pressure through the leak) |

From what I understand the main cause is recalculating the temp. of the walls and floor surrounding the tile that the magma is being pumped from and too. Since a pump pulls a full 7/7 depth of liquid from the tile it is pumping from the tile ends up empty for a fraction of a second, even if there is another pump pumping liquid into that tile. This rapid emptying and filling causes the temp. to jump from normal to hot and back again every time the tile is filled and emptied. Since this happens at least 8-10 times (for all the "touching" tiles) for every pump in the stack you can see why this can cause your system to start to chug along. The screw pump article on the DF wiki has a way to make a better stack that shouldn't have this problem. Its at the bottom of the article. |
