Summary | 0012722: Animals assigned Hunter job title, preventing Training
Description | Cats and dogs I embark with are renamed from Stray Cat/Stray Dog to Stray Cat Hunter and Stray Dog Hunter after a while. Puppies and Kittens born in the fortress all grow up to be Hunters directly. This prevents me from training the dogs. The War training option doesn't show up at all (the space where the icon would be is empty) and when the Hunting training is chosen, it spams "Creature not found" cancellation. I'm also worried that should I ever have any Hunting jobs, they might be given to the animals instead of hunter dwarves.
Steps To Reproduce | Embark with dogs and/or cats. Wait. To speed up the process, pasture them in places where a lot of vermin will spawn.

It sounds like something is automatically assigning those animals for Hunting Training, which is odd because Cats aren't even trainable in the first place. |
|
If it was something assigning Hunting training, the dogs would become Stray Hunting Dogs, which they do not - the sprite doesn't change and the name is Stray Dog Hunter instead. It seems like they gain Hunting experience by killing vermin and the same process that governs Dwarf Profession titles is applied to the animals, too. |

Dogs and cats aren't capable of gaining skills, so they shouldn't be able to change professions. Are you using any mods (and if so, which ones)? |
|
You were correct. I was under the impression that none of the mods I had running were related, but upon closer re-examination, "Pets are Eternal" (that was supposed to simply make pets immortal) also interfered with war training which must've broken training in general. As such, this issue is not relevant anymore. |
|
It might be worth posting the contents of that mod somewhere (as well as any other mods you've installed), since its author seems to think it shouldn't be causing this problem. |
