| Summary | 0013370: Scholars sometimes ponder topics they already know |
|---|
| Description | I put a dwarf who migrated recently, with 0 Mechanic skill, to a library, where they started Pondering "The Pulley". Knowing I already had many books on the subject, I put those books in the bookshelf next to her (via nearby pedestal assign, then unassign), which she eventually read. She STILL pondered "The Pulley", despite this trick working for every other dwarf. I thought it was a one-off but I just had a dwarf make a breakthrough, and when he changed topics, he also switched to "The Pulley" despite also already having "The Pulley" in his Knowledge tab. No other scholars in my Mechanics Library have this issue so far. Note this is different than it being already discovered in the world -- although I stopped worldgen at year 13, before mostly any books were written (it's now year 95). |
|---|
| Steps To Reproduce | Dwarf assigned to library or changes topic for any reason. At random, it'll ponder something they already know in Knowledge tab, or they learn it later and it doesn't switch over like it does with other dwarves. |

| Additional Information | This particular fort is on its 3rd playthrough, 2nd time unretiring, and visited many times in Adv mode. The two dwarves in question are "brand new" migrants (aka they didn't exist in forts/hillocks before migrating), which migrated on this 3rd playthrough. Of note that I had problems with disappearing dwarves/monarch upon unretiring. I had the typical item scatter when returning to my fort in Adv mode, which caused artifacts to be strewn out-of-bounds before, but I managed to recover them in Adv Mode. None of the artifacts that were strewn were these Pulley books, though, which stayed in bookshelves upon every unretire along with my other books. Of note, this world/fort was generated in December 2022 so I understand if it's a write-off based on that alone. Still would be an appreciated investigation, as I main Scholar in Dwarf Fort, on a quest to discover everything in this world, so it would be nice not to put these scholars in a correctional facility every time after their hard-earned work. |
