| Description | Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask about this, or if the fix is trivial and I'm just ignorant. I'm trying to play the version of new df that I downloaded from itch.io on Linux Mint 22.3. I downloaded dwarf_fortress_53_14_linux.tar.bz, which I then extracted, used the chmod command on the executable file dwarfort, but it doesn't open the game when I execute it. Can you recommend any steps? Thanks -- I'm a long time fan of the classic game! | ||||

Oh, and when trying to execute from the terminal as follows, this is what I input and the error I got: user@elitebook:~/Downloads/df$ ./dwarfort ./dwarfort: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2_image-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory |

You need to install that library: https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/libsdl2-image-2.0-0 For problems involving specific Linux distros, best to ask in that community first: https://forums.linuxmint.com/ DF will be updated to SDL3 at some point, hopefully before that version goes EoL. And while this is out of date and not the premium version, installing it should also install any missing dependencies: https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/dwarf-fortress |
