Summary0013557: Moghoppers (and other Vermin Fish) lack [VERMIN_FISH] tag in Raws.
DescriptionMoghoppers (and apparently several other kinds of vermin fish, though I have not personally investigated/tested) do not have the [VERMIN_FISH] tag in their Raws and cannot be caught using "capture live fish" via a Fishery.

Moghoppers do however have the [VERMIN_GROUNDER] tag and can be caught via a Vermin catcher's shop as they are able to move around on land.

Other vermin fish which may be affected: lungfish (VERMIN_NOTRAP though?), sailfin molly, clown loach, guppy, seahorses, glasseye, banded knifefish, white-spotted puffer, sea nettle jellyfish

Steam discussion about the above:

A community mod which adds VERMIN_FISH to lungfish, sailfin molly, clown loach, guppy, seahorses, glasseye, banded knifefish, white-spotted puffer, sea nettle jellyfish, and moghoppers:

Steps To ReproduceIn order to test this, I increased the population and commonness of Moghoppers by making the below changes to the Raws in Dwarf Fortress\data\vanilla\vanilla_creatures\objects\creature_other:

Additional InformationIt would be great if the vanilla occurrence rate of moghoppers could be increased. At the moment, almost nobody seems to know that this mechanic even exists, let alone has ever had the opportunity to interact with it.

I’ve discussed this with several very experienced Dwarf Fortress players, including blindIRL, Hazhaza, and Deep0x20, and even they have had little to no interaction or experience with this mechanic.

The fact that even the wiki contains incorrect information about Moghoppers is a good indication of how rarely players encounter and use this system. For example, the wiki currently states:

Captured live fish:
“Captured turtles and moghoppers can be used as pets. A captured moghopper is also used to make five units of mog juice using the fishery's ‘extract from live fish’ command. This extract can be used for cooking and trading.”

If a mechanic is so rare that even experienced players almost never encounter it, and the available community written documentation is inaccurate, I think there’s a strong case for increasing the vanilla occurrence rate of Moghoppers.

Increasing their frequency would make the mechanic much more discoverable and give more players a chance to actually experience and make use of it, without necessarily requiring any changes to how the mechanic itself works.
