We need a lot more information. How many elephants did you start with, and how many do you have now? How many years have passed since you first got elephants? |

With elephants, it might be useful to tone the reproduction rate down slightly anyway, given the fact that butchering one will provide MASSIVE amounts of materials anyway. Make it so they aren't -the- easymode critter. |

I don't have any solid data, but I've definitely noticed this too. And I guess stairs are quite large, because they all congregate a few Z-levels down in my fortress. My food stockpiles are overflowing with elephant fat:) |

Seems the raws are missing [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] or at least a [LITTERSIZE:x:x] tag. |
