Summary0001867: Missing Cave, possibly caused by placing cave on top of stream/river
DescriptionWorld/Region maps show a cave. Embarking here there is no characteristic "mound" type cave entrance, and closer inspection shows that there is nothing revealed in z-levels below the plain where the cave should be.

Additionally, there are numerous cave creatures lounging about on the surface (dragon, some elkbirds, giant rats etc.) along with the usual cave garbage.
Steps To ReproducePresumably generate a whole pile of worlds with lots of caves and check them each out in dwarf mode.
Additional InformationI have the save sitting here and will upload it if anyone thinks that will be useful - I'll be checking out the map myself to see if maybe the cave is somehow buried or something (?)

The save would be useful, but what might be even better is the world gen parameters for that world (you can export those from Legends), plus a screenshot showing the location of the cave (on the embark screen, or a Legends historical map or whatever). You can upload the screenshot to http://tinypic.com/

Poked around underground - no entrance from the caverns and excavation of the area beneath where the cavestuffs are reveals nothing.

Here's the worldgen export. I have also removed the raw entry for bronze collossi (trust me - you would have too if you were embarking on caves). It could possibly be related to that...but I don't see how. In any case it would need to be done to get the same world.

Also note: this one's a doosie. 1400y worldgen on a large map.

I think I may have determined the cause for this. I am seeing this occur in cases where the cave icon appears in the path of a stream in the world map. Probably worldgen gets confused about how to put a cave in a stream and screws it up like this.

If this is the case, then a simple fix would be to have worldgen simply NOT place caves on tiles containing a stream.

I found an identical issue.

I embarked on an area where a cave was placed on the same tile as a river, and found no cave whatsoever. I did find a bronze colossus charging at my dwarves, however.

Confirmed here as well, .06. Same -- the cave pile, with all its goods, is centered on a brook, and there does not appear to be any sort of mound.

This is still present as of .40.09. I've embarked on a few caves recently and encountered this bug several times when finding one placed on a water feature. It has occurred in several worlds with a wide range of settings, and I believe is easily reproducible by setting caves to be visible in advanced world gen and just looking for it specifically. I've just generated a medium world where I found four instances of it, without having increased the cave count, and only slightly increasing cave size. The world gen parameters:

There were a few rejections during world gen, so it may not create the exact same world. However I embarked and immediately saved on three of the caves I found like this (I couldn't find the fourth again), and can provide the saves (or a clean world backup). I'll repeat, though, that I've found this easy to reproduce in a variety of worlds across many versions.
