Summary0002135: Incomprehensible pathfinding error - no access to some tiles in an empty room
DescriptionI got a fortress where, in a huge empty room, some tiles show 'no access' when trying to build a wall - when there is no visible reason to this. The room is empty of furniture or anything that could block the path, and the 'pattern' described by the inaccessible tiles looks just random.
Steps To Reproducei have no idea, but i can provide a savegame which has the bug.

Is the room built into adamantine or the lowest cavern layer? Is it possible that you have hidden buildings that are preventing access?

Does it persist after save and load?

Can you reproduce it by placing a wall, then removing not-yet-built wall, then trying to build again in the same tile?

If answers are no and yes then it seems like reincarnation of pathfinding bug from 0.31.01 which was later fixed, at least for most people.

yes it does persist, and is true on ver. 31.03 & .04.

I cannot place a wall on thoses tiles as it states: no access.

nothing hidden (never tried using this feature), and no way it's on a cave layer or adamantine.

Did you ever place any buildings (e.g. workshops) in that room? It's possible you accidentally triggered the Hide designation or something. 'q' over the area to make sure.

If that doesn't explain it, you should definitely upload the save for this one. http://dffd.wimbli.com/

ok i might have a clue - i used (ok, abused) of dfhacks and liquids. I removed magma from that very floor. This might be problematic if it fails to remove the temperature as well, as i guess dwarves avoid going through scorching places...

thats probably it, liquids are one of the big complecations in path finding

I don't suppose there are constructed floors mixed in with the natural floors?

Most likely, removing the magma with DFHack just failed to trigger the necessary pathfinding updates. I'm going to close this report for now, since that's a pretty convincing explanation. If it shows up again without the use of DFHack, feel free to reopen the report.
