Summary | 0002247: Climate change in 0.31.06
Description | My game from 0.31.04 did not freeze in winter. I migrated it directly to 0.31.06, and now it freezes in winter. This is very annoying because my entire fort depends on not freezing in winter (it's above-ground). Here is the save file: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2478
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Load the above save in either 0.31.04 or 0.31.06 and wait until winter. 2. Observe that it only freezes in 0.31.06.

I think I'd say this is expected - seasonal temperature changes were part of how Toady fixed the Melting Rain bug. See bug 0000190, Toady's last comment. Does this explain your behaviour? |
|
Um..."I found a seasonal variation that was screwing it up. It's fixed now in the save there (a dwarf that was dying still dies). I can't rule additional causes out, but from what I can see it should be fine." doesn't explain anything, except that something was fixed. |

I noticed the same thing - I think it was a bug that is now fixed. You can check by waiting until summer and then turning off weather. I accidentally turned off weather in the init (to speed things up) and when I embarked I was surprised to see snow/ice over everything. Oh well, I thought, it will melt away. Well, no, actually, it will not unless you turn on weather. I turned it on and immediately it all melted away. Good luck. |

Um..."I found a seasonal variation that was screwing it up. It's fixed now in the save there (a dwarf that was dying still dies). I can't rule additional causes out, but from what I can see it should be fine." doesn't explain anything, except that something was fixed. He fixed it by tweaking how seasonal temperatures work. In other words, the fact that your game didn't previously freeze in winter might have been a side effect of the bug. |

Closing this on the assumption that it was caused by intentional temperature tweaks. |
