Summary | 0002372: Designating a stockpile overwrites stair digging designations
Description | If you designate a stockpile on top of a tile that's designated for digging of a stairway (and perhaps other floor/ceiling diggings as well like ramps), the stockpile will overwrite the digging designation. Normally this wouldn't be an issue because if you designate an undug part of a wall the designation is simply lost. But if you've designated digging out multiple stairwells in the floor, and then you zone a stockpile over them, it'll remove all the stairwell designations. You can designate stockpiles over the stairs after they are dug, but not before. If it is impossible right now to have to same tile designated for digging as well as for a stockpile, I would *much* prefer that if you try to designate a stockpile over an pending stairwell dig, that the stockpile designation for that tile is lost, just as it is in the case of an undug wall, etc.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Designate a down stairs to be dug. 2. Before it's dug, designate a stockpile over it. 3. Observe stairwell never being dug.
Additional Information | Check this for ramps, etc. as well.

1. Designate a down stairs to be dug. 2. Before it's dug, designate a stockpile over it. 3. Observe stairwell never being dug. What happens if you remove the stockpile at this point? Is the designation still there? |
|
No, it's gone. |
|
Are you sure it removed all stairwell designations or did it just remove the designation for the level that you put the stockpile designation on? If it just removed the designation that was where you put the stockpile, then I believe that happened in 40D as well. It might even be intentional, but its easy to work around it. |
|
It just removed the designation for the stairs that the stockpile was on and I never suggested otherwise. But without the top stairs dug of course any stairs underneath won't be (unless there's another way down). I'm sure it's a "feature" that's been around a long time. But it is not intuitive, and not the way it works when dealing with wall digging. |
