Summary0003001: Loading and saving much slower than in 40d (Mac)
Description Loading and saving seems to be working correctly. For some reason, however, it has become very slow. Loading and especially saving worlds in fortress mode has become easily ten times slower than it was in the 40d version of Dwarf Fortress. When saving the program becomes unresponsive for almost a minute while it hogs the cpu (cores).

What size worlds are you generating, and what map sizes are you embarking on? Since the cavern depth has increased by an order of magnitude from 40d, it wouldn't be that strange for saves to take ten times longer.

Yeah, I see this with windows as well. For an older computer (1Ghz) I have resorted to using pocket regions. I usually modify the generation parameters by changing the number of Civs. Then I get humans, goblins, and elfs.

The worlds that I've saved have ranged from small to medium. At a second glance loading has only become slightly slower than it was on 40d. The saving, however, is another matter entirely, as mentioned before.

How large are your embark areas? The default is 4x4. Since the cavern depth has increased by an order of magnitude from 40d, it wouldn't be that strange for saves to take ten times longer.

Just the default size.

Do you still have this problem in a world with the minimum number of cavern layers? (you'll have to use the advanced world gen params to disable the layers)

Closing due to lack of response and the fact that this doesn't seem necessarily unexpected.
