That was too much fun at that stage of the game -- Buy did I have fun -- all my dwarves had lots of fun just as I was about to make traps and a farm. |

You embarked on a cave, and caves are inhabited by a megabeast (dragon, hydra, bronze colossus) or several semi-megabeasts (giant, cyclops, ettin, minotaur). This is not a bug, just rather bad luck on your part. |

Yeah, this is one of those "features" that people aren't always expecting. You can turn on an option in worldgen to show caves, so that this doesn't happen to you again. Otherwise, embarking on or near caves can be incredibly risky, as dangerous critters - including bronze colossi, as you discovered - can live there. Other options include turning down the number of megabeasts in worldgen or embarking "later" in history. It's annoying that it happened to you but it's not really a bug. |
