Summary0003359: Caged kittens sometimes adopt dwarves
DescriptionCaged animals should not be able to adopt or be adopted. Nonetheless, kittens can adopt from inside a cage. Have not observed this behavior in adult cats, due to cat leather industry.
Steps To ReproducePlace all kittens in cage immediately after birth. Wait.

Are you absolutely certain that the kittens did not adopt en route to the cage? I've had this happen several times, and the result is a caged pet.

I cage any kittens born in my fort as soon as they are born & the only ones which have adopted dwarves have done so either while being taken to a cage or before anyone has gotten a "Large Creature Caging" job due to the place being busy at the time. As Quietust says you can get caged pet kittens if they adopt during the caging process but someone has to have the "Large Creature Caging" job already otherwise they either end up in the cage as kittens & stay that way until released or they don't get caged as they're pets before the caging job has been started.

This can be caused (intentionally) by 0001201 but isn't a bug itself.

It seems to me that the described possibility should be a bug.

Either the kitten should not be able to adopt en route, OR, the kitten adopting should cancel the job (object not available or similar), since the system will not let you cage pets.

Note: This is my opinion of course. :) Should not be taken as gospel.

Well the bug would be that the dwarf tries to cage a pet which should fail & generate a fail announcement for the "Large Creature Caging" job not that the kitten adopts on the way to the cage. If the issue is modified to reflect such then it's a bug, until then it's not.
