Summary0003382: Game becomes unresponsive after attempting to name a Note.
DescriptionI placed a Note and when I tried to name it, it didn't work, then I tried leaving the menu, didn't work either. The game is almost completely stuck looking like this: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/6093/frozengame.png save for the blink of the "_". The only keys that work are F1 and F2 for switching between the two places I've hotkeyed, F11 for switching from windowed to full screen, and Tab for toggling the minimap. The latest save is quite a while ago so I haven't gotten around to force quitting the game and trying to reproduce this, as I'm hoping maybe there is a known way to solve this issue?
Additional InformationDon't recall what version the world was generated in but it's at least as old as 31.14

Hmm I think it's probable I accidentally typed the name in without pressing the key for "Name Note" because this appears to be the route setting menu. and I was beginning to write "front gate". Well anyways it's frozen regardless.

Did you try pressing spacebar or enter?

If all else fails, forcequit the program.

Do you have a save that reproduces this problem in 0.31.18? If so, it would be helpful to upload the save to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ and post the link here

Reporter appears unable to provide a save, so I'm marking as unable to reproduce.

Confirmed. I managed to reproduce this.

First go into notes, and set two points. Then go into routes, and hit name route before adding a route, and the game will freeze.

This was done in 31.25

Hey, I just got this bug in the Alert Menu as well.

I was typing in a name for a new alert, I was typing "Lock Down 2", but when I typed the two it went back to the top of the list and I can select the different alerts but I can't do anything else except rename the four alerts I have.

It's like its stuck in the naming mode. Pressing ESC doesn't do anything either.
I can still get to the help screen. The up and down arrow keys still cause me to move between the alerts but I can't move left or right. Oh, but I can still use the mouse. (I didn't know you could use the mouse here.)

ER wait, nevermind its working fine. My enter key was being stupid. Since the original bug report is so similar to my problem. Did you try pressing the enter key again? Just in case it was not being detected for some reason.

I just ran into the exact same problem as the original poster. I was working in the Notes screen and tried to name a note and ended up in the route screen exactly like his screenshot. I may have mistyped like OP said in his first added note (2010-10-07 09:38). I can also switch sidebars with tab, zoom in & out with the mouse wheel, and toggle fullscreen with F11. F10 seems to always take me to an intermediate zoom (the default maybe?). My other function keys do not take me to the locations I've set them for using the H menu, unlike the OP. No other keys seem to do anything.
I'm running 31.25 on Unbuntu Linux.
I just tried rpetiger's recipe for reproducing it (on a copy of 31.18 on a different machine) and got into the same state. So with no routes set up, hitting 'r' then 'n' gets it into this state. When I first hit it, I was about to name a point "front bridge". I evidently didn't hit 'n' to start naming the point, and just typed "front", which has the 'r' and 'n'. I just tried it on my test system and got the exact same result. Very reproducible.
[edit: just fixed typos]

Yeah, I managed to get this same problem. It appears to occur whenever you try to name a route without having any routes set up and looks to me more like a problem of the game allowing you to access a command (name a route) that shouldn't be able to be accessed and is greyed out in the menu at the time.

Ran into the exact same problem in 0.34.07.
Placed two (named) notes, accidentally hit "name route" --> game freezes, only zoom and menu toggle (tab) work.

Yep, I just got it. Every single time I load my game a cavern collapses down on layer -13, so I went to put a note there.
When I named the note I made a mistake and tried to backspace it but it just kept putting symbols instead, so I said ok fine and pressed ESC. Then I thought maybe renaming it a second time would wipe the previous name so I gave it a shot (didn't work), this time ESC did not get me out and I was stuck only able to type more letters into the name until it was full (but still stuck).
