Summary | 0003632: Severed Arteries are untreated.
Description | When a dwarf suffers an limb/muscle injury in which an artery is severed, the injury is cleaned, sutured, and bandaged without any attempt to repair the damaged blood vessel. This does not seem to have any negative game effect. However, the severed artery remains tagged within the dwarf's health profile. Severed arteries should require emergency surgery.

Reminder sent to: Ogg the Blinky Sock Was the artery severed via amputation of a hand, limb, etc? |

None of my dwarves report arterial damage due to the severance of a limb. I do have one dwarf who has recently lost her left hand, and another who recently lost his right foot. Both survived the subsequent blood loss. There is no mention of a missing appendage in the health report of the first, although her grasp is reported as lost, and the hand is mentioned as missing in the physical description section of the status; similarly, the second lacks her foot in the description, and is reported as unable to stand, but there's nothing specific in the health reports. The first is wandering around attempting to pick up objects. The second is in hospital, resting. I currently have seven dwarves with torn arteries. I currently have a Brewer doing his individual combat drill with light injuries to skin, fat & muscle of upper body. His liver tissue also has some minor tearing. The severed artery appears to be in the muscle of the upper body. I have a militia captain still in hospital due to leg injuries (severed nerve, doesn't look good). The liver suture of an old injury remains in the report. An injury to her left hand does not appear to require treatment; however, an artery is reported as severed in the hand (as well as a sensory nerve). I have a Mason recovering in hospital with injuries to his right lower and and right upper leg. Lower arm has been cleaned, bandaged, and splinted. Bone is still reported as 'torn open'. Right upper leg has been cleaned and dressed. In the muscle of the right upper, an artery is still reported as torn, along with a motor nerve (severed). Both wounds are infected. I have a Herbalist planting seeds with old injuries to her left lower arm and hand that apparently did not need treatment. Along with a severed motor nerve, an artery in the muscle of her left hand is reported as torn. I have a Grand Master Gem Setter on his way to pick up equipment with healed (scarred over) injuries to her left lower arm and hand. Arteries are reported as torn in the muscles of both. I have a Siege Engineer in hospital, apparently immobile as he cannot stand, with a healed injury to his right upper leg. Along with a motor nerve severance, the artery in the muscle of the right upper leg is torn. Finally, I have an Engineer in hospital, apparently unable to move due to extensive injuries to his right leg. The upper leg has been cleaned, sutured, bandaged and splinted. The lower leg has been cleaned, sutured, and bandaged. However, an artery is still reported as torn in the muscle of his right lower leg, along with a motor nerve (severed). |
