Summary0003924: There are two types of Steam?
DescriptionThere are two types of steam that can exist in Dwarf Fortress - "Steam" (capitalized) is created when a tile of water is heated to its boiling point (e.g. by a fire/magma creature stepping into it, or by mixing water and magma to make obsidian), and "steam" (lowercase) is created when water coatings on an item or creature are heated to their boiling point. The former type of steam is white, while the latter uses whatever color is assigned to the gaseous state of the hardcoded WATER material (normally CLEAR, which is dark gray).

If a creature made of fire/magma starts wading in a pool of water, both types of steam will be created.
