Summary0003932: Dwarves refuse to eat food due to buggy dining room.
DescriptionI was playing through the first year of my fortress, and mid-summer half of my dwarves stop to eat vermin. This is odd because I can see meat and plump helmets in my food stockpile. Saving and re-entering the game caused the dwarves to go back to their duties temporarily, but they soon returned to hunting vermin. I made sure my food was accessible, and moved some of the food into a new stockpile, but to no avail. I was able to return to normality by freeing my dining room (designated as a meeting hall). After that, all but one of my dwarves run for the food stockpile.
Steps To ReproduceI am not sure, but the dining room in question was built early on in the game, so that I built some doors and a Depot within its designated space.

I see from the announcements and the status of the dwarfs (hunting vermin) on loading this save that there was some sort of problem.

Having the dining room doesn't matter as your dwarfs will eat directly from the barrels.

If you made a new stockpile, the barrels would have been tasked for moving, making them unavailable to be eaten from. Since you really don't have that much food, it is all in a couple barrels which could have easily made all of your food inaccessible temporarily.

Though the dwarfs have the hunting vermin status, as soon as I unpause the game they all run to the food stockpile and eat/drink normally.

As your main stockpile is outside, I don't see anything that would have blocked pathing.

You really don't have that many dwarfs, either, but have alot of jobs queued to be done, which means the barrels could have been tasked for hauling for an extended period until they got to them and freed them up for use.

If you have a save from the previous season, reload it and check to see if the barrels are tasked or walk back through what you were doing.

FYI to other testers: there are no burrows and there is no personal claims on the food.

While the problem went away temporarily, now the next year I have got four dwarves hunting for food again. There is plenty of food, including some prepared food. There are no food hauling jobs and food hasn't moved between stockpiles in a while now. Still no burrows. Two of the dwarves shouldn't even have many jobs to do besides a large stone-hauling spree to clear out a cistern so that I can flood my entryway when the river freezes over. Also on occasion, dwarves will generate the notice "cancels give food, no food avaliable"

And its gotten worse later in the season, I've since started digging a dining room and my miners have a lot of work to do (although it seems they are taking turns hunting for vermin). Also more "cancels give food" messages.

My dwarves are rather unhappy about their stupidity, and I fear that some of them may starve. Perhaps this bug is more severe than I originally thought

Reminder sent to: F50

Your save links are no longer valid - do you still have the 'new' ones you posted? If so, please upload them to http://dffd.wimbli.com and post links here.

I wasn't able to get this to reproduce the first time I looked at it. Were you using any other utilities to modify your game (mods/mem hacks/etc.)?

No further support from OP.

Given in my original assessment I couldn't get this to reproduce, I'm resolving this.

F50, if you get this to reproduce and can upload new saves or fix your previous saves' links, please reopen this report and do so.
