Summary | 0004329: River biomes do not add to animal populations
Description | I noticed that my worlds never seem to have platypuses and their allies in the sites and pops file. Apart from the lack of the amphibious tag, I noticed that their only biome is ANY_RIVER. Remembering an earlier observation of mine that river animals seemed particularly rare, I tested this by removing the lake biomes from the pike, and sure enough, pikes also no longer appear in the sites and pops file.
Additional Information | I haven't tested whether the animals with only river biomes do appear in fortress mode rivers the way they do when they also have lake biomes.

Rivers are stored as map features, so their populations are generated in a different way which makes it more difficult to access them globally. This makes it hard to put them in the txt dumps. Platypus frequency of 10 works against them quite a bit... and they are missing their amphibious tag! I've fixed that, and I've had fortress platypus sightings. Theoretically the river storage could change at some point, but I can't promise anything. |
