Summary0004531: Trying to edit DF desktop link crashes explorer.exe
DescriptionThe desktop link for DF cannot be deleted or its properties viewed. Trying either crashes the Explorer.exe instance responsible for desktop composition and getting the task bar on screen, with effects on the rest of system depending on your configuration (multiple explorer tasks and Process Explorer here, so I'm in luck and can easily restart a new instance of explorer.exe; not really keen on trying without this)

Steps To ReproduceMake desktop link to DF executable
Right click link, select either 'delete' or 'properties'
-> explorer.exe crash
Additional InformationI have a hunch that the BMP icon embedded in the DF executable may be non-standard in some way, but I cannot tell if it may just be my personal WinXP installation. Unfortunately it is a grown one that I cannot easily remake from scratch, nor do I have other computers to check the issue on.

I really doubt that this is a problem with DF as opposed to Windows itself, but I'll leave this open for a while in case anyone else can corroborate.

I can't reproduce this. I consider it highly likely that this is more a problem with your system then with Dwarf Fortress itself.

You can change the icon in the shortcut and test whether it's the icon itself.
Edit: No you can't, I just remember you can't access the properties.... Well, you could technically create a generic shortcut and link it to Dwarf Fortress, I guess?

I tried that, but the bloody system just changes the icon automatically. Grrrr. I do agree though that this might very well be a local problem, but I can't see why it should only affect the DF shortcut.

Not to mention I have *four* DF shortcuts on the desktop by now... *facepalm*
