DescriptionPeriodically .25 will crash for me when apparently saving at autosave times, or when I have accepted a map in worldgen and the map is being saved. Sometimes when this happens, Windows tells me that this is because Data Execution Prevention has closed DF. Since this only seems to happen sometimes when DF is trying to save something, it seems to be somehow using system memory that DEP thinks is only for 'Windows and other authorised programs', to quote the Windows' help. This does not seem to occur everytime, some worldgens are successfully saved, and early fort saves seem to occur normally, although I have no hard data collation. I have yet to verify if running DF from my thumbdrive produces the same sort of problem.

Have just experienced a crash when running DF from thumbdrive on laptop. Occurred at about right time for season change and yearly autosave. Did not get the DEP close message this time, just that Windows has detected a problem and needs to close DF.

It does not appear to be related to the worldgen or seed. I started a new fortress in a new world that was freshly generated. This happened in about, the 2nd or 3rd year or so.. After about the 3rd migrant incoming and after the human caravan left. Might have been at the yearly autosave point, if its in autumn. Fortress population was over 60, had a mayor, may have been over 70 at the latest migrant wave. If needed I can upload my current fortresses which have encountered this.. But I suspect its related to how DF uses memory, or something like that.

Are you using Vista 64-bit? If so, try disabling COMPRESSED_SAVES in init.txt.

I had one at-end-of-worldgen crash, right before region would have been saved.
Win7 64bit. Have [COMPRESSED_SAVES:YES].

I've turned compressed saves off, and managed to get the frequency of crashes down. I still get one at seasonal autosave every now and then... Not entirely sure why. And at worldgen, when saving a map I've decided to use. Again, there does not seem to be a pattern as to how or why this occurs.

This also happens to me occasionally. I'm using 32-bit Vista and have autosaves turned off, but save compression on. At first it appeared to be random, but now that I think about it the most recent one was right before the turn of the third year.

I have this problem to.

The game appears to crash around the time of the seasonal autosave. I have had no worldgen crashes to date.

I kept loading from the previous autosave and it would crash again and again around the same time. I then installed a new dwarf fortress (ironhand) directory and copied teh saves over. The problem went away for about a year or so. Now it is back.

I'll try the compressed saves thing.

I am using XP.
