Summary | 0004647: Diagnose / Clean Loop
Description | Multiple dwarves with a wide range of injuries have been in the hospital for 2 or more years being constantly cleaned and evaluated by whoever the current chief medical dwarf is. Very VERY occasionally another dwarf will treat them, only once every 8-10 months or so and only completing one step. Sometimes a dwarf will break out of the loop by being moved but this doesn't usually work. My hospital is fully functioning otherwise and about half the dwarves brought in get prompt, normal treatment - I've designated it as a burrow in which a full medical staff lives (this was after the loop started happening and didn't help stop it, it just made the times that my hospital functioned normally go better). It's not a question of patients being ignored; the chief medical dwarf obsessively cleans and evaluates them extremely frequently, but never removes the "Diagnosis Required" tag from them. Think about how disturbing it would be to be lying in a bed for two years with multiple, untreated, crippling injuries while the same smiling quack soaping you up and ogles you on a daily basis is your only interaction with the outside world. I will report back if updating to 0.31.25 fixes this.

Do you actually have someone with the diagnosis skill enabled? If you do update make sure to replace all the beds and tables in your hospital. |

Actually, that sounds pretty realistic - a lot like health care in the US of A! :) 1. Do you have lots of idlers? I noticed that sometimes a particular job (fetch patient) gets reserved for one dwarf. Health care jobs have low priority, so if that dwarf is busy then the job never gets done. Find the dwarf that is assigned the job (even though it doesn't show on the jobs menu) and let him or her idle. 2. What does the diagnosis call for? I've seen dwarves with multiple problems that have to be re-diagnosed after a time. Does the history of the dwarf indicate that treatments have been done? 3. Do you get spam about needing a splint, traction bench, or crutch? Do you have cloth/thread/plaster/etc? 4. Try not to change your chief medical officer. That could be screwing things up. Also, make sure that dwarf has the diagnosis labor enabled. Post a save if you have one. |

It happened in my fort 1) constructed coffers 2) created hospital as bug workaround 3) removed hospital 4) removed coffers 5) constructed coffers 6) created hospital again, as bug workaround 7) removed coffers 8) removed hospital and 9) created hospital Hospital was unable to use items from floor, but failed silently, without error messages. I will try to recreate it in a map without DF hack. |
