Summary0004813: Item build orders in Workshops not being executed
DescriptionThis is probably similar to Bug 4543.

I've seen the same thing as in the other bug with Iron Chains not being made, also with leatherworking. There will be adequate dwarves with jobs (labor enabled and show as "no job") but will not perform an action in a workshop. Adequate materials are present (easy to tell with leatherworking). No complaints about "need X to do job" Announcements.

Assigning new dwarves the labor does not fix it. Canceling and redoing the job in the workshop does not fix it. Using the job manager instead does seem to fix it sometimes (hard to tell) as does building a new workshop (?all the time? -- only done this once). The job can be wedged for several seasons and then start working on it's own but it's hard to tell what triggered it to start working.

Once, maybe twice, when a trade completed I saw a workshop/dwarf unwedge and begin the job. Not sure if that's coincidence or not.

Let me know what you need to help diagnose. I can upload saves (or logs or debugging if such exists).

Reminder sent to: eastc

We need more detailed information. What items are you trying to build? What workshop? Is the workshop in a burrow? Are you sure the workshop tiles are accessible (http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Workshop#Description)?

Also, have you configured a Profile on the workshop in question?

What items are you trying to build and what workshop?
iron chains (metalsmith's forge) and leather leggings (leatherworker shop) are the two specific examples I remember.

Is the workshop in a burrow?
yes/no. It was not working before the creation of a burrow. It was not working after the creation of a burrow (or making the burrow active inactive). Is there a burrow bug I should be aware of or watching out for? I could pay attention that if there is.

Workshop tiles are accessible. Workshops have produced things before they become "wedged".

I have configured things in Profile before. At first I thought it was that. Removing the Profile settings does not seem to affect it. It appears to also happen w/o P settings set. P settings used were "specific Dwarf w/ labor allowed to use it" and "min skill level set to the level of the Dwarf with the highest labor skill". So, if I had a proficient Leatherworker I set the shop min skill to proficient.

For the iron chains, do you have a dwarf with the "Metalcrafting" labor enabled? Despite being located in the "Furniture" section of the forge, chains do not use the "Metalsmith" labor.

A quick test confirms that the "Leatherworking" labor should be sufficient for making leather leggings.

I'm pretty sure I had. I recall turning on all the metalforging labors on. It doesn't happen all the time and I can't reproduce it reliably.

Close this out. I haven't seen this error in a while through several more games. I think it's just extremely lazy dwarfs or dwarfs heavily preferring other labors.

Okay. If it turns up again, feel free to reopen the report.
