Summary0005102: Sewers inhabitants hanging out underwater near outflows (some of them stuck to walls)
DescriptionIn every world I generated with more than 500 years of history I couldn't find any alive sewer's or dungeon's inhabitants (the mummies work though. There are just corpses everywhere. I think they may have been dying of old age and aren't been replenished.

Generated two 250 years worlds, no one down ther, just a lot of underground people corpses. I think the problem may extend to dungeons too - I found just elves in one town, but elves are immortal.

I think the sewers inhabitants aren't dying to be honest. They are just few in numbers, and the sewers are so big and hard to navigate. In two towns I found them near the exit to the river, and was able to attract them outside water to kill them. They are there, they just are terrible difficult to find and fight.

You should be able to check the regions file to see how many there are in the 500 yr world, confirm if they are all gone or just rare.

They are there, in all towns. They are just hard to find.

Some moderator could change the summary? The sewers denizens aren't dying, they just get near the exits of the sewers, where only amphibious adventurers can go.

There was even a human vampire stuck in a wall on the sewer's exit! I don't know if it needs another report, but I attacked it and he left the wall. Even if vampire's don't need to breathe, I think they should stay there

Confirming, three vampires found stuck in walls underwater in the sewers. I gave myself [NOBREATHE] - every sewers denizen is near the river, and there is no way a character without [NOBREATHE] can solve those quests. The fact that the vampires were stuck in a wall maybe is an unrelated bug - they wouldn't moveor announce themselves until I hit them.

Is it linked to long histories in any way?

No, I don't think it is linked to long histories anymore. This is happening even in young worlds.

But note that only vampires were in stuck in walls. The underground denizens (reptile man, snake men, etc) were swimming near the sewrs exit, where it meets the river.

So far basically every animalman sewer denizen I've seen has been in the water-filled tunnels where no adventurers without a [NOBREATHE] tag can go. I was already a vampire, so this wasn't a huge problem, but for ordinary adventurers it would make sewer-based quest targets very obnoxious. Bug 0005106 (respawning enemies) applies to the sewer critters as well as dungeon outcasts.

(another amusing note: a named serpent man leader shouted a challenge at me through one of the sewer grates inside the city- he and his group had been lurking near it)

New report: in a town with no river, I finally found a group of olm-men and their leader in the dry portion of the sewer tunnels. This would seem encouraging, except that my current quest target (a cave fish woman vampire) is, in fact, hiding in one of the sewer outflows. To add insult to injury, said "sewer outflow" is in fact a short tunnel leading to an open, 4x4x4 sheer-walled pit partially filled with water on the bottom level. I'm not sure if the sewer even has any other outflows. It's a very good thing I decided to save before jumping in, since it's physically impossible to escape the pit without being able to fly.

I will also add that besides that one group of olm-men, I have found precisely zero living creatures in the dry portions of every sewer I've explored so far, although the game does spread various animalperson corpses around.

What was really strange was finding vampires in the outflows stuck in the walls. They would only "unstuck" after I attacked them and they dodge succesfully.

If you used dfhacks reveal, you would notice creatures entombed in the ground, as shown in this image http://imgur.com/NjF21
