Summary0000534: After deleting a squad, dwarf still goes to combat drills, won't perform civilian tasks
DescriptionI drafted my miner (also expedition leader) to help fight off some mandrills, but was unable to get him to go back and mine afterward, he'd simply go to training drills which may or may not have been happening; they don't appear to be going on with any of the squads, despite barracks being set (armor stand), and activated in the barracks options (I may not be noticing it and just can't tell; this isn't the issue but may be related). He'd dropped his pick, and after re-drafting him into a squad and telling him to go get a pick as uniform, he'd done so, but deleting the squad or manually removing him results in no change; he still goes to the drills (in the units, it reports as "Individual Combat Drill").

Absolutely refuses to mine or perform other tasks despite several different attempts at freeing him.

Deleting the barracks frees him, but he refuses to do tasks, simply sits there with "no job." Deleting mining causes him to put the pick away and then he resumes doing nothing, now with no pick. I've tried designating mining tasks near him, but no luck.

Have you tried deconstructing the item forming the barracks? That can sometimes resolve this issue, iirc.

Confirming this report. I drafted 2 dwarves then changed my mind. Removing them from the squad didn't stop them from constantly going to individual training sessions, which rendered them useless to me. Deleting the squad didn't help either.

I'm having a similar problem with two dwarves. Just out of curiosity, does he have one or more combat skills leveled up fairly high (accomplished or greater)?

That could be it; somehow he got to Master Fighter (could be when another dwarf and him spent half a season unsuccessfully trying to kill an unconscious mandrill.) If that's the reason, I suppose it might be a feature rather than a bug, but then I suppose the rate of combat leveling and mandrill killing need to be adjusted.

Same problem here, they also don't drop their equipment, and will pickup it back if I dump it then reclaim.
