Summary | 0005522: Syndrom effects turning up completely randomly
Description | I have a fortress in a perfectly nice area (no special weather or dust clouds, no unusual weather announced). We've had two forgotten beasts with potential syndrome-causing substances - one blood, the other secretions. Both were killed a good year or more ago in game time, none of the soldiers experienced any syndrome issues and I carefully checked their items, bodies and the surrounding area - no spilled substances from the deceased beasts. No other syndrome-causing creatures have arrived and no announcements have occurred suggesting some might have got in. My dwarves are outside gathering items from a human caravan that was wiped out by goblins. Suddenly, they have all started to drop dead with no warning. One of them died inside, the rest outside, and all bled to death. They die so quickly I've only just managed to get an image of one on the verge of death and he has ZERO wounds (all body parts are yellow but details screen shows no smashed, bruised, broken or dented parts), yet is pale and is rapidly bleeding from every single body part. No battle reports exist relating to any of the recent deaths, so they are not being attacked.
Additional Information | I have uploaded a save. I have also uploaded an image showing the injuries detailed for one dwarf. I will add these in the comments as soon as they are done uploading.

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=5751 for savegame http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=5752 for image showing dwarf bleeding out without injuries Please note, some of the dwarves have yellow injuries showing in (v)(w), but still show no actual wounds in (v)(z)(enter) or (v)(z)(h), just gallons of blood shooting out of every organ. |

I believe that syndromes are designed to have primary, immediate effects and secondary effects that occur after a delay. This could be normal behaviour. |
Can syndromes have a delayed effect? |
Yes. |
Don't syndromes require some of the syndrome-causing substance to have been spilled? As I said, the two beasts we got didn't leave any substances on the floor, the dwarves, the dwarves' armour or weapons. |
sounds like the substance spreading bug where the substances never die off and just keep infecting random stuff. |
"Don't syndromes require some of the syndrome-causing substance to have been spilled? As I said, the two beasts we got didn't leave any substances on the floor, the dwarves, the dwarves' armour or weapons." This seems impossible to confirm. |
Gas wouldn't leave a residue, I think. That plus a delayed onset would do it. |
