Summary0005567: DEP Crash
DescriptionWas in the second year of a new fortress, first one in the first world generated with this version of DF. Game just randomly locked up, nothing particular was happening that I remember, then when it crashed it said that a Windows service called DEP (Data Execution Prevention) had killed DF for fear that it was a malicious program. After some investigation I tried to add DF to an exception list for DEP, but Vista told me that it couldn't add DF to that list, no reason given. I guess this is more of a Vista flaw than a DF one, but I thought I'd mention it anyways.
Steps To ReproduceI have no idea. I can't reproduce it because my save file was deleted. The world remains, but that is it.

DEP crashes almost always happen when you'd otherwise get a crash from trying to execute data as code (normally from stack corruption). Adding a DEP exception for DF wouldn't fix the crash, only change it from a DEP crash into another kind of crash.

Reminder sent to: Hound

Are you using the vanilla version of the game or a third-party pack? Were you using any utilities such as Dwarf Therapist? What PRINT_MODE is set in init.txt?

I am using the total vanilla version, no mods or anything. Literally just downloaded it, unpacked it and started it up. The only thing I could find mentioning print in init.txt was this: PARTIAL_PRINT:NO:2

Dunno if that helps.

So you're using the Legacy version? Try switching to the SDL version.

Please reopen this report if you can find a way to reproduce the crash.
