Summary | 0005728: Captured mounts leave animals list after first training, cannot be retrained.
Description | You can check out my saved game: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=6033 You'll note that I'm training two sets of animals, coatis and giant toads. The Coatis were wild animals, and the giant toads were goblin mounts. The fortress originated in .34.05. Once I upgraded to .34.06, I assigned the best trainer to both sets of animals in the new interface. They all were trained, and I put the males in a cage and the females on a chain. I believe at that point the giant toads disappeared from the animal interface list, though they are still listed as "caged prisoners" in the units interface. I would then get spam messages similar to "<trainer> cancels training of <female giant toad>, <-Trained->: no such creature". I would not get that spam message for the male giant toad in the cage, though at some point I think I accidentally dumped his cage in the stocks interface and I found him convert to semi-wild status while on the garbage dump pile. When I returned his cage to the training zone, he still wasn't listed in the animal interface. Interestingly, the spam messages for the female giant toad stopped? I think that's because I tried to unselect the trainer's animal trainer status and reselect it.
Steps To Reproduce | I'm just guessing here: 1) Capture mounts (giant toad, for sure). 2) Train them. 3) See if they're still on the animals list for maintenance training? 4) If they are still there, perhaps swap them between cage and chain restraint in different training zones?

Addendum: the male giant toad finally reverted to wild state. At that moment he reentered the animals list, and was immediately retrained by the trainer who was still assigned to him. He then disappeared from the list again. |

I'm having a similar issue with Giant Olm mounts. I select them for training and suddenly the fort becomes knowledgeable their training but they disappear from the animal list and are listed as either "caged prisoners" or "invader" if let loose. Perhaps this is related to issue 0003059 My save game: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=6214 Apparently after putting down the loose Stray Giant Olm I triggered a loyalty cascade. I have had a similar issue to those in this area under 34.11: The game linked below is mid loyalty cascade. I have not done anything that would normally trigger a cascade, the only thing I have done relates to animals: I captured some invader mounts in cages, Rutherers I think, they appeared on the animals list to be trained. They were named for what its worth. I allocated a trainer, and waited for them to be trained in the cages, then allocated them to a training zone. A short time later, loyalty cascade. At present it is only co-incidence, and I will go back to an earlier save to see if I can repeat under more controlled conditions. My Save Game http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=6658 As an aside I noticed some odd behaviour between animal stockpiles and training zones. I have a single room set up as an Animal stockpile, which contains cages with bought and captured animals. I allocated a training zone over the top, so that all the animals would be in one room, caged or free. Existing freely roaming animals got added to the training zone, but those in cages were never added. It was only when I created a second training zone in a new room that animals from cages where taken out an put into the zone. Not game breaking though obviously. |

I can confirm this is still present in 34.11. I never received any cancellation spam, but the animals disappeared from the status screen animals list after being trained once. Also, when one of the trained mounts is un-assigned from its constructed cage, a Release Large Creature job is generated, but the dwarf who accepts it goes and grabs an empty cage from a stockpile and transfers the mount into that, instead of setting it free entirely. |
