Summary | 0005772: Sand bags with one sand each
Description | Before starting my sand collection and processing industry I bought some sand from the traders (I might have even embarked with a bag too, I forget now). Now, 5 several ingame years later I decided to start making green glass menacing spikes, so I build the 2 Magma Glass Furnaces and 1 Glass Furnaces (and soon after another 3 Glass Furnaces). All normal Glass furnaces are set to collect send, one magma is making raw green glass, other is making the spikes. In order to help with this (since the send are I use for collection is one side of the base, while the furnaces are elsewhere), I places one stockpile right next to the glass furnaces (all 4 are on top of the sand) and the sand collection area is right there too. Second stockpile is right next to the magma furnaces and is set to take from the first stockpile. At first, both stockpiles were set to store only sand bags ([e]nable Furniture, [b]lock all, [u] and that's it). Then I set the glass furnaces to collect send, but nothing happens. So, I find out I need to set the sand collection area and do it. Collection starts, but quickly fills the several empty bags with exactly 1 sand each. So, I start making more and more bags, and somehow my glass industry slowly starts picking up. With constant "cancels Collect Sand: Need empty bag." because each of the bags is only used once and then discarded. At the end I had some 40 bags with one sand each (I didn't check *all* 40 one by one, but I did check several, randomly, and there was never a bag with more than 1 sand per bag). Various quality bags, both cloth and leather. The field of sand (mined out inside the base) is pretty large. The ordinary furnaces are all right next to each other (2 per row) and are in the top right corner of this sand field. To the right of the top right furnaces is 2*5 stockpile (the first I mentioned). The pile of bags is in the top right corner of the top right glass furnace. THEN, after describing my problem on reddit (and some pointed questions about my stockpiles), I change my stockpile settings for these two pertinent stockpiles (I turned off "[u]:Sand bag" on all other stockpiles before starting on all of this) to permit all Core and Total qualities and Type "boxes and bags". Finally, the bags start being carried to the stockpiles. But I still have dozens of bags with never more than 1 sand per bag.

What makes you think that "1 sand per bag" is a bug? It may well be, but I don't think it's unrealistic to have to use a whole bag of sand for glassmaking. |
I can see how this would be seen as a bug since seeds are stored in bags, but the seed bags themselves are then stored in barrels, eliminating clutter. If you want to mass produce glass stuff things could get cluttered. Since only 1 sand is required to make anything, just having 1 sand in a bag isn't really an issue. Having lots of sand bags laying around could get messy though. |
Collect Sand R Make Green Glass Window AR I fail to see how hard this is. |
Traders sell sand bags with 10 sand. If the trader's 10 sand bag gets used up at once to make 1 glass item, than that's a bug. If not, then me not being able to fill the bag up to 10 is a bug. |
If traders bring bags containing 10 sand, then that's almost definitely a bug - it's normal for them to bring bags of 10 flour/sugar/dye, but not sand. Back in 0.31.25, they only brought bags containing a single unit of sand, so if they're bringing stacks in 0.34.xx then it might be a new bug. However, I have observed them bringing bags of 10 plaster powder back in 0.31.xx, even though that's not something you can do yourself... |

Just got some traders and took a look. You are right, their sand bags also have only one sand per bag. Sorry. |
