Summary | 0000587: Temperatures effects are not working properly.
Description | Firstly, it has always reported the temperature to me as scorching (when I control a creature and press 'P'). I have been experimenting with objects that spontaneously combust, melt or evaporate. (Some use fixed temperature, while others use low melting/boiling/ignite temperatures.) While in my inventory, they stay solid. The first few that I throw also stay solid after throwing. The next ones that I throw combust/melt/evaporate correctly. If I put one down, it stays solid. If I pick one up again, it combusts/melts/evaporates correctly. If I am covered in a molten covering of something which should ignite, it does not ignite. If I create a new creature with the same stuff in their inventory, but after throwing starts to work correctly, they all combust/melt/evaporate immediately, as expected.
Steps To Reproduce | Control a creature and press 'P' in arena mode. This will show scorching (maybe not at first, but definitely after the items below start kind-of working. Create a material, as described in the problem description. The material needs the [IS_METAL] and maybe [ITEMS_AMMO] tags, so as to appear in the selection list. Create a creature with a stack of ammunition made of this material. Control the creature and throw some of the items, pick them up, throw some more etc.

The 'P' text was just in need of adjustment after the safe temperatures were adjusted sometime during the long wait. I've changed that around for homeotherms now. A lot of the rest is just long-standing unimplemented temperature effects, which falls somewhere between a bug and a suggestion, but I'll leave the issue open since the behavior would be unexpected by most players. |

I was posting recently about how objects created in the inventory of creatures (such as zinc weapons, lead weapons, etc.) in the arena do not boil when the creature is dunked in magma. The creature's clothing does immediately burn and produce a poof of smoke, however. |
|
Er, I should clarify: corpses, cloth, leather and other items with an ignition point burn immediately and product smoke. A zinc or lead breastplate, on the other hand, does not melt or boil. This is what happens when I create a creature, put these objects in its inventory, and drop it or place it directly into magma. |
|
It seems to be working much better in 0.31.18. I created a creature with a frozen mercury short sword and it melted immediately, leaving a mercury covering on its hand. Haven't re-tested it with ammo yet. |

Thanks for continuing to investigate! Keep us updated with any further findings. |
