Summary0005916: Stockpile must give resources to a workshop to have its contents used
DescriptionI had 4 carpenter workshops a few levels below the surface. I originally had a wood stockpile outside the fort's entrance on the surface. I created an additional wood stockpile next to the 4 carpenter workshops.

Now, before 0.34.08/09, my dwarfs would automatically take wood from the closest wood stockpile. Currently, they go for the first one that was created unless otherwise told not to.
Additional InformationCurrently, a workaround is to use the stockpile options "Give to workshop". This can get tedious with many workshops.

Is this intended?

To my knowledge dwarves always seemed to have a bit "dwarfy" decisions when it came to using raw materials...I do not know how or if the code for this behavior was changed in recent releases, but please check:
- how close is the original wood stockpile to fort's entrance? Or more precisely, how close to the workshops?
- how much wood is on the other wood stockpile? How close is the closest log?
- did you change any default options on your wood stockpile (a, t, g keys)?

I am asking this because I recall it was said dwarves choose raw materials by calculating which is the closest to them but they still sometimes ignored stockpiles right next to them for the favor of some rock/ore/wood few levels above/bellow just because the game calculated so.

edit: well, just saw your comment about pre-34.08/09 DF, so it seems my questions are a bit unnecessary. Sorry about that. I guess I'll go and try to reproduce your bug.

Yeah, I couldn't get this to reproduce. So was it that the bad pile was directly above the workshop? They are still stupid about z-level distances.
