What's your video card, and are its drivers completely up to date?

More importantly, how old is your videocard? It's possible that running DF might be causing it to overheat - does the same thing happen in any other games (particularly 3D games using hardware acceleration)?

And finally, does the same thing happen in legacy vs. SDL versions?

all hardware is stock to this laptop, its 3 years old, and all drivers are up to date, didnt start happening till df was installed and will occur randomly during the startup of the system but hasnt happened during any of the other games i play, i have tried having df running and go into one of my mmo's and the video is fine in the mmo but soon as i alt tab to df it start bugging out

and yes sometimes running df does cause the laptop to get hot, but this issue happens on cold start too after it has been off overnight

Are you playing in a window or fullscreen? And have you tried changing the video settings in the init files?

update: running as full screen. the flashes are still occuring but not as frequent or as bad so yes improvement but still an issue, showed a friend who plays df and he said that its normal with df

It could be the high FPS causing the card to work too hard. I have mine set to the default 100 on a laptop and it works fine.

Please reopen this if changing the FPS to the default 100 doesn't address the problem.
