Summary | 0006151: job assignment by manager disregards workshop profile
Description | I set up a craftsdwarf's workshop down at the magma level to use to extract adamantine strands, then I used the workshop profile to assign only my "strand extraction" labour-enabled dwarf to be able to use it. The dwarf does not have any other labour assigned to him besides strand extraction. The idea was to restrict the workshop to use by strand extraction only. But when I use job manager to take care of some jobs that are craftsdwarf's workshop related (i.e. 30 bone bolts), they get distributed to the strand-extractor's workshop as well. This literally halts the (repeated) strand extraction job AND the manager-assigned jobs as well. As soon as a single strand extraction iteration is done and the workshop moves on to another job, everything is halted. Nobody can finish the other jobs as the access is restricted and the extractor can't move on with his job either, as it's not related to his labour assignment.
Steps To Reproduce | - build a craftsdwarf's workshop and use workshop profile to enable access only to a single strand extractor (with only the strand extraction labour enabled) - use job manager to assign a bulk of craftsdwarf's workshop related jobs (i.e. 30 bone bolts) - jobs get evenly distributed among regular workshops as well as the extractor's workshop - extractor's workshop's production is halted until the manager-assigned jobs are cancelled manually
Additional Information | One way to circumvent this to not require to manually cancel the bad jobs every time is to use a adamantine storage that supplies only the extractor's workshop. That way the incorrect jobs are automatically cancelled as there is no direct access to the other jobs' resources.

I'm not sure this is really a bug, as the workshop profile doesn't really imply that the workshop can't be used for other jobs, just not by other dwarves. My solution to this is to fill up the job queue on single-purpose workshops with the same job set on repeat, that way there is no room for manager assigned jobs to be slipped in. An option in the profile to allow or disallow manager jobs would be nice, but would be more of a suggestion for the forum. |

Yes, that wasn't how the workshop profiles worked, but this is moot now as the new version 43.01 has just what you were suggesting. |
