Summary | 0006248: Raws for mongoose lack immunity to snake venom
Description | This is admittedly trivial, but it could be an interesting feature. In reality, mongooses have a natural immunity to snake venoms that would otherwise attack acetylcholine receptors and induce muscle paralysis. While a detailed examination of the composition each snake venom and the potential adaptive mutations carried in mongooses would be excessive, I would suggest that mongooses should be immune to the venom of the following creatures in DF: black mambas, king cobras, and serpent men. Available research suggests that mongooses may also be resistant to the venom of black widow spiders(but not other, distantly related species), though this remains untested to the extent of my knowledge. The issue is moot as black widow spiders do not appear in DF, yet.
