Summary | 0006383: Marksdwarfs can't hit certain Goblins at map edge when no path to them exists
Description | I have a moat on one side of my fortress that is near the map edge. There is one Tile worth of land between edge of map and a multiple z leveled moat. Several trees have grown in and blocked walking access to some areas of map edge. Several invasions have happened and sometimes the goblins come in on the edge of the map in an area that traps themselves between trees. I have three squads of marksdwarfs that can unload bolts and arrows down onto the invaders. These are supposed to be easy kills, I have several excellent and well trained marksdwarfs so hitting the goblins shouldn't be a problem but most of the time the dwarfs will constantly miss and generate no combat report. They fire quiver full after quiver full into the invaders ranks and hit nothing nor is there a report on them hitting but having glancing blows, or reports on the goblins being able to dodge any bolts. I first thought it was because I was using bone and wood ammo, but after making tonnes of iron bolts, the same thing happens. Also, if the goblins have ammo, they fire back, which makes this even more frustrating as the goblins seem to be immune to what I fire back.
Steps To Reproduce | >Build a multiple z level moat as close to map edge as possible. >Let trees grow on that side. >Make/wait for invasion to happen on that side. >Shoot at invaders with marksdwarfs

Right now I have one female goblin at the edge of the map, while about 2 dozen dwarfs have been firing their crossbows at her for the last 20 minutes. Several have gotten to become elite marksdwarfs, but not one has hit her nor generated a combat report. |
|
Recently had a Minotaur come onto screen from same border edge. He was shot up by bolts like normal within 20 seconds. None of the dwarfs can still hit that goblin though. |

Please upload a save demonstrating the problem to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ |

Have you tried getting melee dwarves over there? Sounds like the goblin is stuck or something. A number of forts ago I had a situation that sounds similar, except it was a fire spitting blob of fire FB that was stuck on the map edge, but I didn't use marksdwarves because it incinerated anything that got too close. Or maybe I did try marksdwarves, don't remember exactly. However, if you do try to get melee dwarves over there, do they attack or just stand around? |
|
I commanded my dwarfs to try to chop down the trees that were holding the goblin in, but since the pathway to get to the other side of the moat and those trees would get the line of sight to the goblin the dwarfs fled, and usually dropped whatever they were carrying/food items. Melee would not be able to reach the goblin without cutting down trees. Melee just stood around otherwise. When it's happened in the past and the goblins have had bows, the goblins were able to kill some melee troops who just stood there while being completely invincible to my archers arrows. I stopped all dwarfs archer squads so they could go get something to eat/drink, or whatever since they were out there firing for a long time. I reloaded the game several times, on the second reload a hunter/fisher who passed by the goblin on the other side of the moat unloaded his bolts at the goblin and eventually killed it with combat reports being reported like normal. This problem has repeated itself a couple times, I'll save it when it happens again and upload. |

So it's happening again. This time it's slightly different than all the other times. About 2 dozen goblins participated in an ambush and my dwarfs shot them up except for one, who is doing the glitch. He's trapped between trees on his left and right and only has a moat in front of him. Tried uploading the save file, but the zip file is slightly over the 100mb limit for the site. What do? |

Ok, so I divided the save folder into two parts, part I is here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8071 and part 2 is here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8072 |

Same fortress, had a siege, 60ish units, the last all were dealt with except for 2 units, both part of the same group/squad. They were completely immune to any type of action, but still caused dwarfs to cancel jobs, waste ammo on, etc. |
