Summary0006878: Unknown civilizations created after events in adventure mode
DescriptionAfter various adventure mode shenanigans with creating entities, I have four totally blank civilization entries at the bottom of the "Civilizations and other entities" list. Even though the entries are blank, they can still be selected. I'm pretty sure these all have to do with custom entities that I created, but I know that not all of the members of custom entities change to unknown civilizations. It might be related to "civil war" sort of things, though, because there were somewhat weird circumstances around all of these.

Additional InformationWhat follows is a long story about these that may or may not be helpful.

The bottom-most blank entry was the first chronologically. I went to a bandit camp ruled by a human but consisting of a lot of goblins. They were all fairly polite at first, but once I started killing some of them, weird things happened. Some of the goblins attacked me on sight, some were friendly, and some were killing each other. I decided to create a leadership position and give it to a goblin to see what would happen. This entity was "After the Blades of Discovery" and the goblin I gave it to (Snang Spittledemon) is the one who created an unknown civilization (though I only learned this after retiring and checking the legends). I did the same thing with another goblin, creating the Coalition of Confederating, but that goblin (Nguslu Menaceink) did not make his own civilization. This goblin Nguslu Menaceink as well as the original human leader Asno Ardentseduces show up as rumored enemy fighters of the entity After the Blades of Discovery (the problematic one). Looking at the legends screen again, it may also have to do with the fact that I killed a goblin in between becoming the lord and passing on my first lordship. I asked another goblin Stozu Fellsevere to travel with me.

There was a town called Blanketgrave which was apparently full of bandits and had no less than 5 different factions vying for control. This town was weird. Some people would attack me on sight, others would attack when I told them my name (No Quarter, but they would sometimes stop fighting if I asked), and lots of the people were goblins, but humans and goblins both attacked me. This was with an even earlier adventurer before doing anything bad. I came to town with my goblin companion, got attacked by a goblin which I then killed, then recruited the human Tawki Squashedmost (who is in the third unknown civilization) as another companion. I was lucky enough to run into a criminal ringleader, an amphibian woman named Thiyo Leakedfarm, who attacked me and then got killed by me. At this point things got really weird, because Tawki started spitting at me, along with other citizens of the town including the human child Osman Padbolted who is in the first unknown civilization. I declared lordship over the town, and soon after this Tawki killed Stozu. Tawki stopped following me, and I made Tawki and the child Osman hearthpeople of the Angel of Loving.

The second unknown civilization belongs to my adventurer Taba Worshippure who did all this. The point where Legends mode says I became an unknown civilization is between wanderings after passing on my two lordships at the bandit camp.

I'm thinking that the reason only one of the goblins that I made lords became an unknown civilization was because I made him a hearthperson before giving him the lordship. And I remember I asked to be a hearthperson of one of the entities I passed on. So it probably is just a matter of being a hearthperson.

Related but may also be considered a separate issue is that claiming a site makes you join the current ruling entities civ. Claimed a Dark Pit and joined the goblin civ (not that I wanted to). Now Goblins from that civ still hate me because I am in the Dwarf civ but all my Dwarf buddies hate me because I am a member of the Goblin civ. I made one of the Goblins in the Pits a hearth person because he hated the other entity and he had the same unknown civ problem. This was in .05 but I deleted all my saves when the update dropped.
