Summary | 0007111: My Dwarves are leveling skills to near Legendary before the first year is over.
Description | My Miners and my stonecrafters are reaching near legendary levels before the first year is over. I was told this may have to do with "job speeds and movement speeds finally separating entirely" but not correctly balanced in terms of job speed. I am also noticing that I am able to get done a lot more in a shorter time span... which would go along with the job speed theory again.
Steps To Reproduce | Play Dwarf Fortress in fortress mode, observe rate and speed of jobs and skill progression.
Tags | haste, progression, speed, time

Miners seem faster indeed. In previous version they could reach Legendary in second year. Now I have legendary miner in late Summer of the first year. |
|
i always felt as though my miners were legendary first year even in the previous version. not so much on all other jobs though. |
|
in .40.03 this does still occur. My fortress is far past what it should be and it isn't even fall yet in the first year. |
|
Miner levels up exceptionally quickly because of how generous the exp is, and the fact that although more exp is required for higher levels, exp is gained much faster at later levels as he rapidly increases in speed. Also, there are many attributes that increase mining speed and therefore exp gain; check http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Attribute and see how good your miner's attributes that affect mining are. |
|
It isn't just mining itself, its all skills that I have observed so far. ToadyOne already made a comment of what could be causing this, "There's a generic "job" move that functions as a throttle for job completion, but there are places that avoid that." http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=140544.msg5475034#msg5475034 |

It's interesting. There was a problem in previous versions where doctors would always lose all of their doctor skills eventually, because it wasn't feasible to injure enough dwarves to keep skill decay from happening. Could this be the consequence of an attempt to fix that? |

It seems that in .40.05 this issue has lessen somewhat. I have a Theory what could of caused this increased time issue I encountered. Currently the game takes time every month I believe to calculate and do troop movements on the map (2 weeks.) Toady One said this takes about 20 seconds before and now it only takes about 10 seconds. Maybe during play the consequence of this occurring is that you (the player) would get 20 seconds extra as the game calculated and did these troop movements. That would mean that every year you get 4 minutes extra time to do stuff you want to do. Now it should be less then 2 minutes extra time vs .34.11. |
