Summary | 0007535: Underground trees grow through ground, other weirdness.
Description | I know Toady just fixed saplings not maturing with the new update. I'm continuing a save from .03 so that might have something to do with it too, IDK. Upon loading my save I immediately started seeing saplings turn into trees (yay). Unfortunately some of these trees were on my underground farm level, which is just below the surface. When I cut those trees down I noticed that they had grown threw the ceiling of soil and were poking out into the above ground, daylight and all. Some had grown several levels above ground before I cut them. Worse, cutting them resulted in them leaving holes in my roof! Their removal also removed any soil tiles their branches had displaced while growing upwards/outwards. Some of the holes were quite large.

The trees can apparently also grow threw constructed floors. I covered some of my outside soil tiles with floor so the caravans could get to the depot and an underground tree popped right up threw it. |

Martinuzz posted a save at http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9088 - added a link above. |

Here's another save, it's a simple demonstration embark, with no trees on the surface normally, so you can see the mushrooms quite clearly growing up and through. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9095 As noted, it would be great to know if this behavior is intentional. |

I've had this with the trees breaking into those ponds at the surface and after I cut them down, my underground was flooded. They have to grow 2 levels below the ground, though |

New world in 40.04 and the underground mushroom trees are punching through my newest fort everywhere by Autumn, so it's NOT a save compatibility issue as we first thought. I really doubt this is intended behavior, because there's no way to stop it from happening before they grow and break the surface. You can't pluck them before they grow, so an underground pasture is out of the question. Not sure what you mean by two levels below the ground, Deboche? Mine were shoving their way through dirt ceilings wherever there was soil to grow in. |
