Summary | 0008276: Crash when moving in Adventure Mode
Description | Attached save http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9671 The game crashes relatively often when moving in Adventurer Mode. It always slows considerably before that, suggesting massive calculations (though not all such slowdowns produce crashes, most don't). One of these crashes is reproducible with the attached save.
Steps To Reproduce | With save http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9671 load and move six steps to the south. The game should crash when/near a moment a stray cat shows up. Crashes both v0.40.11 and v0.40.12.
Additional Information | The world and save was created with Ironhand's graphic mod in v0.40.11, so RAWs are changed where appropriate in relation to unmodded game, mainly tiles and creatures visual representation. I haven't introduced other changes. My adventurer is always accompanied by two companions when crash happens, may be a coincidence.

+1 crash in vanilla DF version 0.44.12 on Xubuntu 18.04 during movement. However I have seen streamers crashing on Twitch constantly in similar fashion in adventure mode. I was thinking it was tile-set issue, but it is clear now, it is vanilla Dwarf Fortress bug! When crash happened my Dwarf was sprinting uphill. He was tired and he already fell to ground twice before crash. Crash occurred exactly, when he was on ramp and entering higher level. Information from shell running DF.0.44.12: - Segmentation fault (core dumped) Last 3 same entries from errorlog.txt: - Ed‰m Imineth, Weaver: site walker could not return to home zone - Rith Nishkulet, Diagnoser: site walker could not return to home zone - Uzol Onshenlolor, Carpenter: site walker could not return to home zone Last 5 entries from 37.5mb (OMG sparring!) gamelog.txt: - You conclude your performance. - You collapse and fall to the ground from over-exertion. - You stand up. - You lie on the ground. - You stand up. Unfortunately, I didn't save for long time and autosave in init.txt is working only for seasons or something like that. Impossibility of having custom saves in DF and autosaves fit for adventure mode (like daily based saving), will make tracing this bug hard. I just hope, there were some similar bug reports, because this bug is very frequent in adventure mode. Happens on Twitch like once for 1 hour to every single streamer playing adventure mode there. |

+1 crash on Vanilla DF version 0.44.12 on Xubuntu 18.04 during movement. Crash during movement to west. When moving into this part of map, screen jumps and instead of screen movement to left game crashes with "Segmentation fault (core dumped)". Here is save with the bug: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=14177 PS.1. I have tested an even earlier game save, which I did right after purchase of a steal battleaxe. It was crashing in same place on the same movement too. Area with "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" covers in both saves entire center of the hillock I started adventure. Some of the traded items for the steal battleaxe was a stoneaxe and a copper long dagger. The Dwarf in question just strapped them both on his back without issues. I went to game save before the fatal battleaxe and everything is working fine. I gifted the steal battleaxe owner, the stoneaxe and everything was ok. Crash happened though, when I gifted this dwarf also the copper long dagger, which is non-dwarven weapon. PS.2. I tried few more trades for battleaxe now. This time without copper dagger. They all lead to game crashing, when I try to enter area of Hillock with the Dwarf I traded with. Some clothing has to be violating some rule of Dwarven cloths and this is causing this particular crash. Maybe actions of player in trading with Dwarves for needed weapons, ammo & equipment are causing all those sudden crashes, when Dwarves re-enter same zone the on map with player? PS.3. After few trades, I found one, which was not causing a crash. The Dwarf spawned new copper battleaxe on top the stone axe I gave him. Also the dropped cloths lost their owner. Second pair of gloves the Dwarf was wearing due trade also disappeared. Maybe trading 3 pig tail hoods to this Dwarf was causing this particular crash, as the game mechanics couldn't handle disappearing act on all 3 of these pig tail hoods? + trading/giving away long dagger definitively bugs game too. |
