Summary | 0008479: Keas produce far too many vengeful thoughts by flying overhead, sending entire fortress into a stressed-out state.
Description | Even small packs flying overhead and doing kea-ish stuff keep putting dwarves into combat mode over and over, making everybody end up like this: http://imgur.com/XLofaGN
Steps To Reproduce | Have keas. Have dwarves. Mix.

Presumably, any hostile [ITEM_THIEF] flying wildlife can produce this, since they will continuously enter into the dwarves' sphere of awareness and flee, probably ending in tantrum spirals: currently, nearly every one of my dwarves is flashing red arrow and seriously freaked out, as in crying-on-the-shoulder-of-the-expedition-leader freaked out. All in all, they shouldn't cause this much stress. |
A save uploaded to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ could make it easier for Toady to reproduce and fix this problem. |
Here's the save: one of the marksdwarves should slip into depression after a few minutes. Be aware I'm playing with tweaked entity ethics and a few other modded raws, but I don't think I modified anything that would have bearing on the issue. I can upload a set of the changes to the raws if needed. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10006 |

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10079 Here's my save. No modified raws. You can check random dwarves and see that a lot of them have multiple vengeful thoughts. Also, my broker "has been under a great deal of stress in the long term", despite not (as far as I can tell) losing any family members and having thoughts that indicate he is otherwise almost completely happy. There have been buzzards flying around (there might still be some around at the time of the save as well), which would further suggest it is indeed caused by thieving birds. I don't know what happens after the point where I saved this; I'm afraid to continue because this game is going quite well and I don't want to start losing all my founding dwarves (and maybe the whole fort in the long run) to depression because of this bug. |
For comparison, crushing dwarves under bridges is a lot less traumatic to their fellow fortress dwellers than cheese being stolen by a bird. |
They don't even have to steal anything. They just have to be there. |
