Summary | 0008616: Flesh ball description: "it is there that it absorbs"
Description | Should this perhaps be "it is thought that it absorbs"? "They are there to absorb" would also work, but to my mind doesn't quite gel with the tone of the other descriptions. (I came across this while adding a creature variation to work around bug 0007651.)

It's not the most common phrasing, but to my knowledge it is grammatically correct - though I'll leave this open for a native speaker to confirm. "It is there (in that debris/near those underground ponds) that it absorbs dead matter for food." is what the sentence is trying to say. |

^ Yup, your reading is correct. |
